What Range(s) do you host as a Match Director?
Rockingham County Gun Club – just outside of Reidsville, NC.
How many years have you been a NBRSA Match Director?
I believe I ran my first NBRSA match in 2002. I took about 10 years off and have been back at it for 3 years now.
Which Benchrest shooting discipline matches do you host at your range? Long Range? Score? Group?
We host NBRSA group matches and also have club group and score matches on a monthly basis.
Do you personally shoot any Benchrest matches? If so, which matches?
Yes. I actually shoot at the matches I run at RCGC and the SER matches at Twin Oaks Gun Range in Dublin, GA. I want to get back to the Super Shoot and Nationals soon!
What rifle components do you use (Scope, Stock, Action, Barrel, Trigger)?
I shoot Stiller Cobra drop-port actions, Scoville stocks, Jewell triggers, Bartlien and Kreiger barrels, Lepold and March scopes, smithed by myself. I also make my own bullets.
Greatest benchrest match memory to date?
Just the camaraderie shared with fellow benchrest shooters from around the country.
Funniest Benchrest match memory to date?
As an initiation for first time shooters, we often have all the shooters on the line shoot the newbie’s target during the first sight-in period. Their reaction is hilarious, and it makes the new shooter feel like part of the gang.
How can the NBRSA assist you in making your matches more successful?
I’m not sure how to accomplish this, but the sport desperately needs to attract more younger shooters!
