Greatest benchrest match memory to date?
My greatest memory was setting a new world record for heavy gun score even though that record was recently beat.
Funniest Benchrest match memory to date?
One time I brought one of my friends Johnny to experience benchrest. During his first sighter period, he shot his first shot about a foot high. When he saw the spotter disc, he thought he was supposed to aim at the orange spotter, so he shot at the spotter and hit a foot higher than that. This continued until Bill Johnson called up from the pits and said “Cease fire, Cease fire!! Bench 6 is totally off target, pieces of the frame are raining down on us, and he just blew the number board off the frame! I’ve never seen anything like this, cease fire!” Bill Johnson is always so steady Eddie, and to hear him get so excited as that was hilarious. The look on the Johnny’s face was priceless. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time, and everyone still laughs about it to this day.
How can the NBRSA assist you in making your matches more successful?
Maybe the NBRSA could start a match directors forum or quarterly news letter that allows match directors to share ideas and best practices with each other.
